Extraction
Contents
Background information
Typically in a data recovery situation the patient device is typically either non-functional or barely function, so the data is unable to be extracted by traditional means
hence why it has been sent to a data recovery specialist. So, extraction methods such as the ones listed in this segment are often required to be used to retrieve and extract the data.
This is especially true in a Digital forensic situation where unless there is absolutely no other option should the data be extracted through typical means such as using the device to exfiltrate (send out)
the data, as this can and will change logs and data within the device damaging the validity of the data held within the device.
